WACO - Allegations of racism leveled against the V.A. Hospital's police department in Waco from September, Tuesday were confirmed.

The National V.A. office in Washington D.C. said there was credence to claims of racism and that management in Waco never took measures to stop it.

"The final decision concludes that you were discriminated against because of your race and protected EEO activity in connection with unwelcome degrading, insulting, hostile and intimidating conduct," the report read.

Jeff Brice just received the decision to his complaint this month, after filing it in March of 2009.

And this is just with staff, imagine what they do to the veterans!

And it doesn't surprise me the VA drug their heels and it took more than a year to investigate. But, at least this time they didn't try to cover it up, and burry reports to avoid taking responsibility as they normally would.

About time but I'm wondering why it took so long myself.

Veterans-For-Change has been compiling a report for more than a year now on racism (both staff and patient), poor treatment, medical malpractice, prescription errors, you name it...

If anyone has a story to tell, send it to: jim.davis@veterans-for-change.com

Will do but so far I've been lucky and handled most of the problems myself. Sucks only getting a 20% rating with a screwed up knee and ankle but I manage.

Tony,

The thing is no one should ever have to "deal with" or "handle" the problem, there should be no problem in the first place. It's inexcuseable and unacceptable!

As for your 20% rating, depending on how long you've been rated at 20% you can either file an NOD or a new claim and go through another C&P for an increase!

That hurt came in the form of racist jokes, slurs, spying on minority employees, and even a noose left on an employees desk.

Find this @!$%# all over the U.S....pure hell when you have to work in it...and it's not even close to being a joke...

Very true! It's rampant, but it's just plain not being reported thru the appropriate channels to actually have the problems taken care of!

And it's not just in the VA system either it's rampant in the military as well and yet I've never seen an IG report for this nor have I seen many complaints filed. But then in the military, file a complaint and chances are there would be immediate and swift retaliation against the person filing the complaint!

I am currently on active duty and my spouse a veteran is being seen at the VA Hospital in Waco, TX the staff attitude towards patients is deplorable. I am a healthcare specialist, Respiratory Therapist, for the Army and I have never seen such open hostility towards patients in my career. I have written my spouse's congressman and mine requesting a congressional inquiry at this point looking for somw other measure by which to file a formal complaint. I have spoken with patient advocacy and today I am going to the administrative offices to file further complaints. I can't even get physicians to fill out paperwork for her job for FMLA purposes or the proper EFMP paperwork for the Army. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have served for ten years and this is a horrifying example of what I could face after my service to my country is completed.

Kevin,

You can request a new doctor thru patient services, and if they don't comply, go immediately to the hospital director and file a formal complaint and demand immediate action.

Also stay on top of your Senators and Congressman, they too have a veteran liaison in their offices, ask to speak direct to them.
