A search for a missing 27-year-old Marine Corps combat veteran dragged on for around 12 hours late Thursday night into Friday before local authorities decided to temporarily suspend the search this morning.
Christopher Paul Headrick, of Sulphur Springs Road, apparently became "despondent" and left his home around 11 p.m. Thursday, according to a release from the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, the agency responsible for heading up the search. Headrick was believed to have fled to a rural area near North Thompson Boulevard, where police tracked him in the early Friday morning hours.
Headrick, who reportedly received combat injuries while serving as a USMC military police officer in Iraq, was about to be transported by family members to Alvin C. York VA Medical Center Thursday when he grabbed a military issue backpack and helmet and left their home in his van.
