NORFOLK - Veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders could finally get access to benefits.
Christine Brooks is a Navy veteran who says she suffers from PTSD, including painful headaches that make it hard to sleep.
She's been trying to receive PTSD health benefits from the VA since the 1990s but her claims keep getting denied because she didn't have direct combat experience when she was on active duty in the 1960s.
Christine is trying to keep faith in the Department of Veterans Affairs, but her patience is running low.
"It's frustrating. You get aggravated which I don't need because of my heart. You even get anxiety attacks," she says.
Christine says she consistently receives letters every few months telling her that they are still processing her application for compensation. The latest is dated July 7th.
