Jacobí Montgomery wound up sleeping on the sidewalk outside a bus station in Beaumont less than six months after being discharged from the Army.

The 28-year-old Iraq war veteran's sole possessions consisted of the white and blue striped pajamas he wore, a pair of ratty white tennis shoes on his feet, and a wooden cane he'd been issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs following knee and shoulder surgery.

"I had family telling me it was my fault I was homeless, but who would choose to be homeless?" Montgomery said. "Sometimes I feel like the battle I had with my family and the military was worse than Iraq. Because you come home thinking you'll be welcomed with open arms and you get shunned … It's like a kick in the face."

The homeless Veteran situation has been ongoing for years and years, and they're just now taking a look at it and in some regions barely putting any money out at all to take care of homeless veterans.

In west L.A. they're going to spend a whoppin $30 million to house 40+ veterans. Where with the same money they could probably house 500+ at Sepulveda!

My husband is an honerably discharged Marine. He's been ill for sometime with no medical explanation. He suffers from severe peripheral neuropathy in both hands/arms and feet/legs; and has hepatic steatosis; not mentioning the remainder of the long list of illnesses.

It is our belief that TCE, PCE and all the other toxins he was exposed to during his duty is the root of his medical problems. We have spent just about a decade and one-half going through test, after test, after test; paid for by our own private health insurance.

Then...we signed up for help with the local VA Medical Facility. Hey--maybe that would get them to recognize that my husband is sick and the toxins are the cause---right??

Did you know that they make you re-test at their hospitals? Did you know that they would rather spend money on simple blood work and utlrasounds (that were done well within a few weeks time); than listen to what the patient already knows about himself and he carries the medical proof in his hand to show you?

My point is -- the amount of money that the VA has 'wasted' making my ILL husband undergo all the tests that he's already had done by private doctors, just to give us the same diagnosis that we already knew, is disgusting!!! Why not give that money to one of the homeless veterans that hasn't been fortunate enough to get the VA to listen to his case, so now he's not only sick -- but homeless too!

May God watch over those who have lost the will to fight the Veteran's Administration.

All the waste in the VA system? You're right it's adding up to billions of dollars every year, then add $338 billion from 2008 and $540 billion from 2009 that we the taxpayer paid to support illegal aliens with welfare, housing subsidy, food stamps, free meals at school, education, medical and more, even 1/2 of that would have been nice had they transferred that to help homeless veterans and Veterans suffering from hundreds of illnesses.

I can't push hard enough to vote all encumbents out of office. Stop the lip service and lets get folks in to do the job, and if at the end of their first term they don't prove themselves, out with them and so on.

Guaranteed members of Congress will learn fast and listen!
