Despite another attempt at upgrading Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities here being shot down in the Senate, supporters say they will continue pushing for a full VA hospital.
“We’re not giving up. We will never give up,” said Ruben M. Cantu, past commander of Disable American Veterans Chapter 121 and a member of several other veterans organizations.
U.S. Sens. John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison added amendments to a defense funding bill, but the amendments were dropped in committee before the bill was passed, officials said.
“Unfortunately Sen. (Harry) Reid (D-Nevada) filed cloture (closing) and cut off any further debate on the large bill (the National Defense Authorization Act), which prevented Sen. Cornyn’s amendment from being considered,” Cornyn’s Texas press secretary, Jessica Sandlin, said.
“We will continue to look for opportunities to offer the amendment to future legislation,” she said.
