Federal prosecutors have charged a 55-year-old Blackstone man with a gun-possession charge after a man was shot in the parking lot of the McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Richmond.

The U.S. Attorney's office and the FBI said Wednesday that Cornelius Hayes is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. State police said they arrested Hayes in Chesterfield County not long after the shooting. An affidavit alleges that officers found a revolver in Hayes' lap.

Police say the shooting happened shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday. The victim was shot in the head and left eye, and was transported to a local hospital. No other details were available.

The FBI is in charge of investigating the shooting.

Would have been nice to know if the man who did the shooting was a Veteran or the man he shot was a Veteran...

Could have been a case of PTSD... and what about the man who got shot... is he ok?
